Stunt Turns Bad as Bomb Squad Are Called In

Stunt - Ubisoft Watch Dogs

Ubisoft sent packages addressed to journalists to promote their new game Watch Dogs; but the stunt sparked more attention than intended.

Ninemsn employees were evacuated from the Australia Square building in Sydney after a journalist was sent the package, along with a note telling them to “check your voicemail”.
The package couldn’t be opened and seemed to be making weird noises so Ninemsn called the police who in turn called the bomb disposable unit.

All staff were sent home (good) and the journalist was apparently in tears (not good).

Once the bomb disposable unit had hacked into the safe, it contained Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs game with some other promo items.

Ubisoft said:
“As part of a themed promotion for Watch Dogs, our team in Australia sent voicemail messages to some local media alerting them that they’d receive a special package related to the game. Unfortunately, the delivery to Ninemsn didn’t go as planned, and we unreservedly apologise to Ninemsn’s staff for the mistake and for any problems caused as a result. We will take additional precautions in the future to ensure this kind of situation doesn’t happen again.”
